Performing in the Zone in Business

Performing in the zone is what all sports stars search for consistently in and what sales professionals and small business owners long for.  It has been called performing in the zone.  

So what is this mysterious zone that you hear the best of the best speaking of?  The zone is in a way an intense concentration where everything else is zoned out and only that which is being focused on matters.  Most of us mere mortals have never experienced such a thing where time and space slow down and everything happens perfectly.

Olympic athletes mentally go through their performance or their run over and over again perfectly in their head and science has proven that this form of mental practice is as good as if not better than actual practice.  I am sure you have heard that practice makes perfect, where the fact is actually that only perfect practice makes perfect.

So how does this apply to business?  Most of the best sales professionals that are at the top have rehearsed over and over again, their presentation, their close and how they will handle each and every objection possible.  They practice it so that it becomes unconscious and does not come out rehearsed or forced.  It is as natural as breathing.

If you are a small business owner then you are probably doing presentations of some sort to some level of client.  Mentally practice the best cast scenario over and over again until it comes out perfectly in your head every time.  Write down a list of every potential objection your client might give and handle most of them in your presentation.  

Most of all expect to win.  No matter what always expect to win so that like the tennis player McEnroe, you are totally baffled if you do not win.  I would not recommend throwing anything but you must be so accustomed in your mind at winning that the universe will almost apologize when you do not.  That is how to be the best.
