The Reason People Sabotage Their Businesses When Things Start Going Good.

By: Jeremy McCluggage CH.t.

Many small business owners start doing well in business and for some reason sabotage when their business starts taking off.  This phenomenon used to happen to me when I was younger.  It was pointed out to me and at first I denied it.

After it happened a few times over the years I had to look at the issues and address them if I wanted to build a successful business.  My wife was tired of excuses and I was tired of being half way successful.

One day I noticed a similar occurrence in the businesses I had done this to.  I hit my self on the forehead like a bad cliché and made a discovery that day that would prove to change my life and my business.

I realized that I was sabotaging at about the same income level over and over again.  There was about a five percent deviation yet the pattern was there.  I have talked to so many other entrepreneurs since then with the same challenge and developed a theory.  That has proven itself out.

We sabotage our business because of what I call the pressurization theory.  I have heard it called it law of the lid as well.  I am sure you have heard of homeostasis.  When a pendulum swings one way or the other it will always come back to center.  We all seem to have a financial homeostasis as well, or comfort zone.

It is like a pressure valve.  When we get outside our financial comfort level the valve opens and we reduce our income back to a reasonable level for us.  I at first thought that the idea was crazy until I saw I was living it.

This especially happens when a person is running from poverty.  If pain or anger is driving you to succeed when you get to a certain comfort level your pain or anger subsides and if that is your drive then you relax until the pain becomes great again.  So many of us seesaw from success to challenges on purpose in our businesses.

So how can we fix it?  I have done much research on the matter and what worked for me is I had to stop running from some thing and start running toward something in my business.  At first this was a challenge.  I had always been driven by my fear of poverty so to go from that to a longing for success or wealth was a huge transition.

What happened for me is that my children were born.  This gave me a big enough why to go out and move toward brining security and stability into my home.  I was not going to go get a job so I had to make it happen.  To be honest, this was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

I will probably write another article about this topic because it happens to so many of us.  I hope this helps you break this destructive pattern in your life.
